We are delighted to formally welcome Germany into an agreement with the Equality Fund, united in our shared ambition to advance gender equality through innovative development finance.

By contributing €18 million in a two-year commitment, Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) joins the Governments of Canada and the United Kingdom in a strategic, multilateral donor partnership with the Equality Fund. Our fund leverages capital from the public and private sectors to create reliable, long-term funding for social and economic progress.

Traditional models of financing social and economic progress are no longer fit for purpose. A rapidly changing world requires development finance that is resilient, steady and durable. The Equality Fund provides flexible, long-term funding to women rights organizations and feminist funds across the Global South and East, while providing an innovative model for financing social outcomes sustainably.

Launched in 2019 with an initial contribution from Global Affairs Canada (GAC), and a multi-year agreement from the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), the Equality Fund has grown its gender-aligned portfolio to be worth more than its original contributions while disbursing over $130 million in grantmaking to date.

We are proud to work with these nations, united by a shared vision, and commitment, to gender equality globally. Our model demonstrates that it is possible to advance these goals while making smart and strategic investments into sustainable development.
